 Ladder
Company 19 of the Boston Fire Department is located in
the heart of South Boston - better known as "Southie"
- and has served the neighborhood for over 100 years.
Southie is arguably one of the most famous neighborhoods
in New England and has been the setting for many recent
films and novels.
The
residing quarters of the company has had several locations
in Southie over the years and has been at its current
location, 700 East Fourth Street, since 1932. Engine Company
2 is also assigned to the firehouse and accompanies Ladder
Company 19 to most District 6 alarm responses.

In
the 104 year history, we have lost two members. Lt. James
Gavagan was killed on December 8, 1927 and Firefighter
Joseph Sullivan on December 3, 1947. We honor their deaths
and the memory of all firefighters killed in the line
of duty.
The
apparatus has changed several times through its history
with innovations in municipal fire service equipment.
The current truck is a 35' 1993 E-One with an aerial platform
capability of 110'. The staffing is made up of four Groups,
comprised of one officer and three firefighters per group,
commanded by Captain Joseph Casper - a lifelong resident
of South Boston.
